End of an era Posted : 2010-05-06 We are fast approaching the Euros 2010, an event which this year will be conspicuous by the abscence a competitor who, as the most sucessful ever competitor has become an ITF tournament legend.

After winning 6 World and 15 European titles in a row of successes unparalleled in the history of ITF competition, in a career spanning almost 20 years , Miss Julia Cross IV Degree (Scotland) has decided that the time is right to announce her retirement from competition.

When asked about her decision to retire Julia said “These last two years have been particularly difficult for me due to a serious and progressive hip injury which now requires surgery should I wish to continue in TaeKwon-Do in any sort of capacity. This has helped me to realise my life in TaeKwon-Do is more than just about tournament, and as much as I have enjoyed competing and had a great time in doing so, I feel it is now time to move on. This decision has not been easy to reach and I will find it very hard to say goodbye to the adrenaline and energy of competition, however my classes and seminars are taking up more and more of my time and these are something that I would like to focus on in the future. It seems for me, a natural progression to share my experience and knowledge with the people who will be tomorrows champions”

ITF Scotland and The United Kingdom TaeKwon Do Federation would like to take this opportunity to thank Miss Cross for the years of devotion and sacrifice she has dedicated to the national team, and to wish her well in her future Taekwon-Do career.

Landmark 2009 Posted : 2009-10-02 Students and instructors from Buckie, Forres and Inverness TKD schools recently made their annual trip to Landmark Forest Theme Park near Carrbridge. The turnout was excellent with 105 people taking part. All who went had a great day helped by the superb weather. As usual everyone took the forest trail first, before lunch and then the kids enjoyed a good 4 hours of play in the excellent facilities at the park.

As everyone left and boarded the buses it was the usual see you again next year or at the next competition!

Thanks to all for coming along and making it a day to remember

MSBA Colour Belt Open Posted : 2009-09-28 Thankyou and well done again! Another great MSBA competition just passed, gathering people from further afield than previously, this time we welcomed students from Newcastle as well as from all over Scotland.

Thanks to everyone who helped set up and make the event happen, especially Ricky in West Lothian College, in his 70's and still working away. Thanks for all your help.

The standards were high and all students were a credit to their schools in the way they competed. One of the highlights of the day were the team events, in particular the junior team from Queensferry doing Chon Ji aged 6! The team sparring was also great to watch as well.

The competition started with one of Master Sutherlands favourite events, traditional sparring. Mark McGeachie and Sean Whelan treated the crowd to their traditional sparring display, it was excellent and inspiring. Good luck for Argentina where the boys will be representing Scotland in the Event.

South Queensferry won the overall School award with an incredible 30 medals in all events, beating Bathgate (2nd) and Muireston (3rd) a complete table is listed below;

1 - South Queensferry

Instructors Meeting Posted : 2009-08-30 On Sat. 15th August a UKTF instructors meeting was held at Bell's Sports Centre in Perth.

The main topic on the agenda was how the UKTF could better serve it's students. A healthy debate was held on several topics, one of which was the subject of whether black belt gradings should be regional or national events. After much discussion it was decided it would benfit all concerned if these were to be changed back to national events as opposed to regional, as they are currently. Pre-tests for 1st Kup and above will remain regional events.

Another topic which was discussed and will affect grades from 6th Kup and above is the introduction of one day technical seminars (similar to those held for 2nd Kup and above prior to the bi annual black belt gradings) for green and blue belt students. Watch this space for more information.

Kevin McArthur - Tour de France Posted : 2009-08-27 Congratulations to Kevin McArthur, 1st Kup, from South Queensferry TKD who recently took part in, and successfully completed a stage of the Tour de France. No mean feat, especially considering the mountainous terrain he had to tackle. Kevin has trained extremely hard over the last twelve months in preparation for the event, an achievment made all the more impressive considering prior to beginning his training he had serious knee problems due to years playing rugby. Kevin has written an informative and inspiring account of his journey from start to finish which is well worth a read. It covers the type of training he undertook in preparation for the event and the event itself.

South Queensferry Fair 2009 Posted : 2009-06-29 Saturday 15th August saw South Queensferry TKD take part in the Ferry Fair in South Queensferry. 45 students took part and showed off their TKD skills to the watching crowds as they walked through the town centre.

They all enjoyed the experience and even though the younger students were a little shy, it was great that they had the confidence to walk with us.

The Ferry Fair is similar to other Town's Gala days except that during the week leading up to the fair there are many activities including football tournaments, the bury man walk, the bellstain walk and dog shows to name a few.

art at 11.30 the sun came out and it stayed dry for the remainder of the day. Thank you to all who took part in the walk and helped out.
